Starting September 18, 2025, the Platinum Card® from American Express will roll out several exciting updates, but with a significant cost increase. The annual fee will rise to $895, marking a $200 increase. Here’s everything you need to know about what’s changing, what’s staying the same, and how you can make the most of these new benefits.

What’s New for the Platinum Card® Holders?

If you’re applying for the card on or after September 18, the new fee will apply immediately. Current cardholders will see the increased fee at their next renewal date starting January 2, 2026. However, both new and existing cardholders will have access to the updated benefits beginning September 18.

Limited-Edition Mirror Card Design

In celebration of the updates, American Express is introducing a limited-edition mirror card design for new applicants. Existing cardholders can also request this special design. This isn’t the first time the card has undergone a transformation — back in 2022, artists Julie Mehretu and Kehinde Wiley designed two unique card designs that are still available today.

Final Thoughts: Is the Platinum Card® Still Worth It?

While the Platinum Card® from American Express comes with a higher annual fee, the new and enhanced benefits make it a powerful choice for frequent travelers, dining enthusiasts, and fitness buffs alike. The new perks, such as Uber One credits, Resy dining benefits, and lululemon credits, add more value to an already robust lineup of offerings.

For those who regularly take advantage of the card’s benefits, the $895 annual fee might well be justified. However, if you’re considering applying for the card, make sure to evaluate how the new benefits align with your spending habits to determine if it’s a good fit for your lifestyle.
